This is a link to the Advisory Class tab. It is not likely to be of interest to anyone, except perhaps my former students. It remains for them, and for me.
When I first built this website, my son Geoffrey was eight years old. He created "Geoffrey's Fun Zone" for my students. Even though most of the elements no longer function properly, I could not bring myself to delete the page. So it lives here now, where I can be reminded of it.

Hello!
I hold a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Sciences from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in American History from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, which is partnering with Gettysburg College (Gettysburg, Pennsylvania) for this degree program. I taught in the public school system in California for 34 years. For about half of that time, I taught U.S. History to 8th graders and Social Science Survey/World Regional Geography to 9th graders. For the last 14 years, I taught mostly A.P. U. S. History to high school juniors, and Civics (American Government & Politics) to high school seniors. I wrote the curriculum for most of the courses I taught, either alone or with my colleagues. In 2019, I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year for my school district. In addition to my official teaching assignments, for several years before I retired – and every year since – I have enjoyed mentoring a small cohort of students who have been studying independently for the A.P. American Government and Politics Exam. During the height of the pandemic, this mentoring continued over Zoom. These topics are not just academic for me. I firmly believe that a healthy democracy depends upon the civic education of the population. Our future will be shaped by the young people of each generation. It is important that we prepare them for the responsibilities and opportunities of citizenship and residency. I am also an elected official myself. I serve in a local nonpartisan position, as a Trustee for Gavilan Joint Community College District in Gilroy, CA. I am currently beginning my second four-year term. I have a passion for teaching U.S. History, Government, and Politics. I do miss the classroom and my students (but not the commute or the paperwork), and I enjoy supporting teachers and students of these subjects with this website, private teaching/mentoring, and through consulting.
